Ireland's big energy transition milestone ⚡

Hi,

Here’s some good news to start the day:

  • Solar accounted for 25% of Australia’s electricity mix in November, Ember data shows. That helped push coal to a new monthly low of 48%.

  • Solar comprised 28% of Chile’s power output in December, per Ember stats.

  • Uruguay hasn't used any fossil fuels in its electricity mix since July, according to Ember data. Wind and hydro are the country's main power sources.

  • Across all OECD countries, coal use for electricity was down 6% in October versus a year before, per the IEA. More than half (53%) of the OECD’s power came from renewables and nuclear in the month.

  • BloombergNEF expects global electric vehicle sales to increase 30% to 22 million this year. The share of EVs in global vehicle sales will reach 27%, up from 21% in 2024.

  • California has unveiled a $310 billion plan to create an integrated, zero-emission passenger rail network across the state.

Quick note: We’re preparing for a webinar focused on the UK’s energy transition. If you’d like to get involved as a sponsor or speaker, let us know.
